Years of observing politics in this great country had led me to certain conclusions. This is what I believe :
I believe in equal liberty for all, most notably the individual – the “ultimate minority”. I believe in personal responsibility – taking care of yourself, your family, and looking out for your neighbors. I detest the “nanny state” mentality that many in our society have adopted, and yet I understand there may be some limited circumstances which warrant the aid and attention of the Federal government to the States.
I believe that every American, no matter their circumstances or position in life, has the potential for greatness as they would define it, if only the Federal government would remove the obstacles of onerous taxation and over-regulation which permeates our daily lives.
I believe that every law-abiding American citizen has the right to bear arms, the duty to defend their homes and property against criminal acts, and that these rights shall not be infringed – ever. I also believe that, once properly trained, any law-abiding American citizen that wishes to carry a concealed firearm for personal defense shall be allowed to do so. I believe that a government that does not trust an armed citizenry is to be scorned, for it is not deserving of our trust. I figure if you are qualified and highly trained to carry a firearm, you are one of the “good guys”. The Second Amendment trumps all argument to the contrary.
I believe we, as Americans, should focus more on long-term solutions and less on short-term “fixes”. Government does not create wealth, and no nation has ever spent itself toward prosperity. Deficit spending is nothing more than a “smoke and mirrors” scheme for the confiscation of wealth – your earnings. I believe the so-called “death tax” is antiquated and should be abolished forever. We already know that our tax code is overly complicated. I believe a 10% tax on consumable goods, with no exemptions, is fair and equitable for all. Since we have evolved from a nation of producers to a nation of consumers, the “fair tax” idea has merit, and could produce billions of dollars in revenue year after year.
With a fair tax of 10% on consumer goods, there is no further need for the Internal Revenue Service, and I believe this unit of government should be mostly dismantled. There will be no more deductions from your wages – you keep 100% of your gross earnings, and are taxed only on the items you buy. Imagine that – you get to keep what you earn ! With a fair tax in place, everyone would contribute to the tax coffers whenever they purchase clothes, groceries, gas, and such. In 2008, Americans spent roughly 15 trillion dollars on consumer goods and services, so 10% of that number is well over a trillion dollars in revenue. It wouldn’t take long to pay off the national debt and start saving for the next down-turn in the economy, now would it ?
I believe the English language should be the “official” language of both government and its citizens. New immigrants should be encouraged to learn our language, and we will assist them, if necessary. It is their responsibility to assimilate into our society, not the other way around. It is their responsibility to embrace our culture if they yearn to be citizens of a free society.
I believe that any country that cannot secure its own borders cannot remain a sovereign nation for long. I believe in the use of technology to assist in this effort, yet it will require substantial resources to effect the flow of illegal aliens into our country – “boots on the ground”, if needed. Folks, there’s a reason why so many people from all over the world go to great lengths to get into this country – it is individual liberty and the vision of economic freedom which drives them.
I believe “fiscal responsibility” translates into living within our means – literally. The Federal government has become so gluttonous it threatens our inalienable right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” under our Constitution. I believe that it is the ultimate hypocrisy to make printing your own currency a FELONY while the Federal Reserve goes unchecked, without audits or scrutiny. If Joe Citizen prints their own money, they go to jail for a long time – if the Fed does it, it’s called a “stimulus”. To me, this is beyond irresponsible and borders on the criminal.
I denounce the social scientists, those that tout the theme of “one world government” and the concept of regional “unions” and common currencies, preferring in its place a Constitutionally-limited Republic, just as it was formed by our founding fathers. It isn’t broke, folks, but it has been wounded by years of onslaught from the fringe.
I abhor the current mind-set of “bail-outs” and financial rescues for private industry. I believe that less government is better government, because government does not create wealth. I believe the business enterprises that generate the bulk of America’s wealth and jobs are to be celebrated, not demonized in the media. I believe our current financial “crisis” is the result of government meddling in the affairs of business, and I oppose it on general terms.
I honor our armed forces and emergency services personnel – the greatest in the world – and vow to support them whenever and wherever possible with competitive pay scales and the finest equipment and technology our country can muster. I salute our police, fire, and emergency services workers that are the “glue” that holds this country together – without them, there is anarchy and chaos.
I believe it is the duty of every American citizen to vote at every opportunity, so that the blood of our soldiers and airmen was not spilled in vain.
Lastly, I believe the oath to uphold the Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, is a sacred vow to my fellow citizens not to be taken lightly or with indifference. To this end, I have pledged my sacred honor.
I love what I read form your site. I am with you all the way. At age 65, I beleive that I still have much to contribute. I do not like the way politicians, be they donkeys or elephants, have ruined our country and turned it into a paper tiger with no beliefs of its own.
AMEN to point # 5 above, related to Taxes. What an awesome idea! I’m in – how do I sign up?

ps the idea of a 10% flat tax is great. No loopholes etc. Everyone pays the same no matter if they are president or unemployed.
What great concepts! If only more of us can band together to support them.
